Outstations

Your gateway to coastal adventures, quiet escapes, and good company.

The Yachting Section maintains six outstations, giving eligible members a welcoming place to tie up while exploring Howe Sound, the Sunshine Coast, and the Gulf Islands. From lively seaside villages to peaceful island settings, each destination has its own character and offers another reason to get out on the water. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or building an outstation stop into a longer coastal cruise, there’s plenty to discover along the way.

Outstation visits are about more than a place to moor—they’re an opportunity to make the most of your Club membership and enjoy the company of fellow boaters. Head ashore to browse local shops, explore a trail, or find a new favourite cafĂ©, then return aboard to unwind and take in the view. You might arrive alongside familiar faces or meet members for the first time over a dockside conversation. However you spend your stay, our outstations bring a sense of Club community to your coastal adventures.

Outstation access is an exclusive benefit of Active Yachting Section membership. Members must be in good standing, and eligibility belongs to the member, rather than the vessel. Social Membership does not qualify for outstation use.

Before setting out, log into the member portal and select an outstation above to review its location, facilities, and specific rules. Each page also provides access to the online check-in form and registry.

All outstation moorage is available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved. Please do not call the marina office to reserve an outstation berth. If you make a reservation directly with a marina, it will be treated as a guest moorage booking, and you will be responsible for the marina’s applicable moorage fees

VRC Outstation Polices & Procedures

Use of VRC outstations is for VRC members only. A member must be in good standing, must be in possession of a valid membership card AND a VRC burgee which must be flown on the vessel at the outstation.
The maximum length of stay is three consecutive nights per vessel. Length of stay cannot be extended regardless of the number of members on board. A member must overnight on the boat while moored at a Yachting Section outstation.
The online check-in system is not a reservation system. Outstation use is on a “first come, first served” basis therefore, members do not sign in until after their vessel is secured at the dock and must sign-in within one hour of arrival. The procedure for using the online check-in system is described below.
The dock should be left prior to 11:00am on the day of departure to make room for arrivals. The exception to this rule would be if there is a safety concern with leaving the dock.
Rafting is permitted at all outstations EXCEPT Pender Harbour, Otter Bay and Gibsons Marina. Refer to individual outstations for parameters and restrictions as they may change seasonally. Members must allow another vessel to raft upon request.

Members must ensure that vessels are ready to be rafted to at all times. This means kayaks in racks must be removed and secured on deck, dinghies must be stowed forward or aft of vessels, and a courtesy fender should be put out. It is possible a boat may be rafted to when the owner is not in attendance.
  1. Report damage or unsafe conditions of the facilities to marina staff for attention or repairs. Concerns can also be reported to the VRC office and Rear Commodore.
  2. Moor only at the designated VRC facilities at the outstation.
  3. Vessel owners visiting outstations or reciprocal clubs must maintain current marine insurance with a minimum of $2 million liability insurance and be prepared to present proof of insurance if requested.
  1. Members and their guests will conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values of the club. Please be polite and respectful to other members and to marina staff and management. If an issue arises, please contact VRC Office, the Rear Commodore or the Commodore for assistance.
  2. Be thoughtful and considerate to ensure the most equitable use of our limited resources. When docking, pull in and tie-up in a manner that creates the most space for others as possible. Five feet at each end between boats is recommended. When vessels leave the dock, consider repositioning vessels to make additional space. There may be a need to share power or to raft to other vessels.
  3. When rafting, communicate with the adjacent boat to determine their preference for which end to cross over. Walk gingerly, avoiding crossing over hatches/windows. If in doubt, cross over the bow. Vessels moored at the dock should place a courtesy fender on the outside of their boat.
  4. Be considerate with your noise levels, particularly in the evening.
  5. Gensets are prohibited at the dock, unless power is unavailable, in which case they may be operated only between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm.
  6. Pets must be on leash on the docks.
  1. A member who has violated the Outstation Rules, or whose guest has done so, will be deemed to be a "Responsible Member", subject to penalties described in this section.
  2. 2. If a boat is in violation of the Outstation Rules, and no "Responsible Member" can be identified, the member(s) believed to operate the boat shall be deemed to be the "Responsible Members", subject to the penalities described in this section, which  shall be shared equally among them.
  3. Violations of any of the Outstation Rules may result in the vessel being charged $5 per foot per day in transient moorage fees for the duration of their stay as a penalty. The fees shall be charged to the Responsible Member(s) VRC account.
  4. Violations of any of the Outstation Rules may result in the suspension of all  outstation privileges for the Responsible Member(s) as a penalty.
  5. Any penalty listed in this section may be applied by the Rear Commodore.
  6. After applying a penalty, the Rear Commodore shall notify the Section Executive.
  7. Any penalty listed in this section may be appealed to the Section Disciplinary Committee, at the request of the member being penalized.
  8. The Section Disciplinary Committee may decide to apply, modify, or waive any penalty listed in this section, for any violation of any Outstation Rule.
  9. 9. Any decision relating to these Outstation Rules by the Section Disciplinary Committee shall be reported to the executive in writing, and made available to the "Responsible Member(s)".

Outstations are a valuable member asset. It is important that their usage is fair, clear and transparent, therefore it is imperative that members adhere to the following self-governing rules. It is every member’s responsibility to be aware of the outstation rules before using the outstations. A failure to adhere to the rules may result in suspension of outstation privileges.

Outstation Registration Access:

Online sign-in procedures permit members to view outstation moorage availability prior to entering the harbour and, equally important, for the Yachting Section to track outstation usage.  Please notify the Rear Commodore should you have issues signing in.
